My favourite magazines are always the Christmas editions, packed with tempting mouth-watering images of the most perfect clothes, parties & fantasy layouts…this year more than ever.
It’s Pure escapism a chance to leave the real world & head into a world of make-believe. Jewellery, diamonds dressed up models in extravagant one-off designer outfits with golden sequin eyelids & glitter pouts.
My state of mind and the need to indulge in make-believe dressing were directly impacted by the difficult few years we have all witnessed. Not just how I see myself but how society is becoming increasingly fraught. I now have 3 local food banks, homelessness in London is in every doorway.
World events have an impact on the way we dress, who doesn’t want to wear bright mood-lifting colours, bare legs and 4-inch heels in zero temperatures? What’s the alternative…trying to project a sense of not losing touch with our happiness.
In fashion, we find comfort and reassurance, the familiar feel of cashmere, the moment I put on my pyjamas my mood changes … I’ve started to carry perfume in my bags…I reach for it whenever I feel stressed, close my eyes & breath.
Denim is reemerging why? because it’s a basic fabric of a collective global world uniform. Worn in unison it allows us to blend in, or even retreat into a comfortable laid-back anonymity. Add my Uggs it has become my everyday happiness to stroll with the dog take a break and escape from my reality
Can you separate real life through your wardrobe? Do we all play a role …mother, daughter, grandmother….artificial intelligence, filters, photoshop etc. Is anything in life genuine? As a social influencer, I am surrounded by a world of make-believe, fake emails, fake followers …offers that don’t exist, money, clothes, jewellery, etc.
Without a doubt, this has been the most difficult blog to write. I end the year without a positive look back at 2023 it has been challenging, depressing & deeply upsetting. 2024 is around the corner a need for peace and hope in the World is the only real escapism that will unite us all.
