When fashion fails

There was a time when I would have been delighted if someone had spotted I was wearing the sold out must have item of the season. Or strutting Prada's “New in” Vogue featured sling backs.

Call it validation or showing off, but now instead of seeking sartorial approval from my fashionista friends and colleagues I have an almost desperate longing to stand apart.

Possibly it’s me, I’m sick of seeing the same repetitive outfits. I head out to the shops hopeful for inspiration and fulfilment and after an hour of browsing bland, boring over priced garments I wonder why I bothered.

Turning your back on mainstream fashion can be a challenge but it can also be fun. If the alternative is to try something different, shop in new places or even having a go at making your own ..I’m going my own way this Summer.
