It started in January. Whilst trying desperately to pack away the Christmas decorations. Do I need all this “stuff”? Friday mornings I used to hunt down vintage clothes and shoes at Portobello. The thought of any more unnecessary clutter. I close my eyes no thank you. Instead, I buy a coffee or fresh sourdough for lunch.
Inevitably the streamlining of the house would gradually start to change my wardrobe and daily look. Above the minimum look of two classic colours reflects the alterations I have made. There is nothing quite so fresh, clean and elegant as a white tailored shirt. It feels fresh, uplifting and effortlessly chic.
Neutral chic.
Effortless, Natural, Casual, Basic. Wearable. This is the vocabulary used when describing neutral dressing. The words may sound dull but they are in fact describing deliciously uncomplicated clothing.
Neural colours in pink and grey are a great option for Spring. It’s easier to layer colours that are shades apart it gives texture and adds interest. I deliberately purchased high waisted denim because I wanted to wear the tan belt. Having decluttered other belts and bags to the thrift store I was delighted to come across some long-forgotten gems.
Over the years I have built up a collection of belts, bags and jewellery. I have kept items of sentimental attachment. The rest I have donated so hopefully others will enjoy wearing them.
Classic allure
Essential Separates.
There is no doubt that with financial prices going through the roof, every woman will need their wardrobe to function. Investing in neutral separates that can be mixed and matched will be essential. Effortless chic is built on the versatility and wearability of individual pieces.
The essential ingredients for the wardrobe are stacks of perfect T-shirts and tanks, thin good quality neutral cashmere, white jeans, flat sandals and a classic trench. The neutral style has an uncontrived, relaxed attitude and never looks like it’s trying too hard.
Less is more.
The clothes I’m wearing are feeling fresher with an almost calming effect.
The home-like wardrobe has been stripped of unnecessary items. Left behind the rooms feel fresher, and cleaner and more importantly, they now contain what’s important to me now. I’m not surrounded with things that just “sat there” or cupboards overflowing with items “ I might need”.
Covid changed my life, In every way, my life has moved on. It’s important my wardrobe, my home and my lifestyle reflect this.
