Never steal style.

Looking like a cheap copy of another woman is a cry for help. Borrowing another person’s style is not chic it’s downright desperate.

Kim Kardashian is not Marilyn Monroe and she never will be. Borrowing a dress that doesn’t fit is not classy. The original dress was sewn on to the iconic actress, standing three inches taller than Kardashian with narrower hips the dress could not be done up. Copying Monroe again the fur wrap was used to hide the open back.

Photographed in another Monroe dress the reality star posed with a Golden Globe award. Wearing the same Norman Hartnell dress Marilyn had worn to collect the award in 1962.
Wearing both dresses Kardashian expected and got the wanted publicity but it also highlighted her own lack of style.

Don’t get me wrong I love looking at fashion, style and what people are wearing. I get ideas and styling tips and of course inspiration. But to steal a look including colouring my hair like Kardashian amounts to fake chic. We are all unique and have our own individual styles.

Media hacks

Imitation

It has been said imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. People copy your look & style in the world of social media you cannot stop them. This image of me has been viewed over 10,000 times within 3 days replicas complete with flowers were on my feed.

Vintage

To stop people copying my look I buy vintage. It’s difficult to replicate, it’s personal to how I like to be styled.

Need inspiration

It’s so easy to find inspiration for outfits using sights like Instagram or Pinterest. At a touch of a button inspiration, ideas and fashion hacking are free to browse. Using your camera snaps add your favourites to your phone for your next shopping trip.

Copying a complete look is a huge no. The look might work on you and adding different accessories would add a touch of your own style. But a wardrobe built on copying is going to end up a mess. The person you are copying will have a different lifestyle & budget. In some cases, items are returned or borrowed.

Influencer

Every day I receive requests to work with brands, especially jewellery and sunglasses. I have never said yes, to wearing items that are not my look given to me for free or for commission …no thank you. It’s tempting to say yes to everything if you do your account becomes weaker.

Influencers will work with brands to promote looks. I’m constantly in Vivaia shoes because they invited me to work with them. They fit my lifestyle & compliment my look.

Love leggings

I work with this brand because their products work so well with what’s in my wardrobe already. If you work with a company make sure you visit the website. If it’s not for you be honest with them. Not everything works, if you wear the wrong clothes it is not good for you or them.

If you know…you know

Never believe all you see, fashion and media move fast the demand for new looks and images is not always correct. If you constantly post photographs they can be used twice using filters. I posted the original in green this is an example.

Why do people copy?

People copy because if a look is classic or on-trend, they feel they can achieve the same reaction. So sorry Kim you are not Noami.

Reworking trends and paying homage to previous eras are in fashion’s DNA. Wearing vintage, thrift and recycled clothes is essential to the environment going forward. The effects of becoming a more visually driven society make the yearning for the past easier.

if you must copy do it discreetly and don’t copy the whole look.
