Basic Easy Chic

After my mother passed away in April, I found it challenging to continue presenting myself to the world in the bold, vibrant colours that I had always preferred. As I engaged in various activities, I realized that adopting a simple, classic style with basic and bold elements was the best way for me to move forward.

The most straightforward choice was black, perfectly suiting my mood of determination and heavy heart. Fortunately, I kept key pieces from my City days: a classic Tuxedo and well-cut trousers. Taking a deep breath, I began to pull neutrals and unearth forgotten gems.

Upon arriving for lunch, appointments, or shopping, I always stuck to a palette of white or cream. It felt fresh, new, and chic, and made dressing up effortless as I kept all accessories in black or gold. After years of wearing pinks, blues, and stacked heels, this new style feels safe and familiar to me.

I had seen this linen trench coat in Marks & Spencer. I originally felt it was self-indulgent and that I didn’t need it. However, I tried it on, which is unusual for me. I needed a size 6, but it wasn’t available. A week later, I walked into my local store and they only had one size left... yes, it was a size 6. It has proved to be a joy to style.

While working with the brand Elie Beaumont on a photo shoot for the new season sunglasses, I chose to wear two different slip dresses. I didn't want to wear anything tight or structured and I was in no mood for ironing or heels. These large, elegant shades have concealed many sleepless nights and moments of tears between shots.

Classic bags that always work, new season shoes, a touch of fun with bag charms, and like a security blanket, a spritz of perfume or a makeup touch-up... Sometimes you find solace in the last place you would think of. The bear was a gift I purchased for my mother, and she loved it.

White denim, chinos, and cotton joggers were already in the wardrobe. When I looked back at these images, I was more surprised by my footwear. I never planned to put the heels away, but obviously I had.

Pops of red have enhanced clean lines, and versatile accessories offer a streamlined take on Summer chic.

Elegance is reflected in confidence, and style is something you cannot leave the house without. Everybody has a different path to follow and challenges that you cannot plan for, or even begin to prepare for... let alone decide which shoes to put on. But if you try hard and put that freshly painted foot in front of you, maybe the rest will follow…later.
