Resetting the seasons.
I was determined to tackle the task that I had been putting off for quite some time. May Day was my chosen date to confidently bid farewell to the winter season and take charge of organizing the clothes that had been sent to me for social media promotion.
Although the task was daunting, I took a deep breath and confidently dived into the task of donating, saving or binning, excess.
Over the past 3 years, I have worked with so many brands, boxes arriving of beautiful clothing sometimes worn just for the photo or video I hadn’t processed the room it would take up.
The incident that caused my downfall started when the apartment below mine became vacant. I wanted to clear up my bedroom, so I bought rails to hang coats and occasional wear. Last week, to my horror, I counted 19 coats and 14 jackets on the rails, and that's not even considering the everyday selection upstairs.
I sprang into action because the apartment downstairs is up for sale, and time is running out. I opened my wardrobe doors and began to mercilessly edit my belongings, keeping only the items that I was absolutely certain about.
As I was planning my wardrobe for the summer season, I was delighted to find plenty of beautiful and vibrant colours to choose from. I confidently packed away my winter clothes such as woollen garments, cashmere outfits, and heavy-duty jumpsuits or trousers, storing them in vacuum-sealed bags. Meanwhile, I also sorted out some clothes that I no longer needed, which I planned to donate to thrift stores.
I had accumulated an overwhelming amount of clothes that I had either forgotten about or simply did not enjoy wearing. Brands ask you to choose items from their website & then add items that feature in campaigns or need pushing. Not all are suitable some do not fit, quality may be poor, wrong items sent etc
I took some time to sort through my wardrobe and put together some outfits for social media. However, I realized that I need to buy some new clothes for the summer since some of my old clothes are no longer in good condition. I found some decent options, but some of them were past their prime, and I also found some newer options that I hadn't worn yet.
Accessories, including jewellery, were much easier to manage. Even though I did donate a few pairs of sunglasses, I couldn't bring myself to part with any bags without some form of therapy. In the past, I regretted throwing away shoes and thought, "What was I thinking?" So now, I tend to hold back when it comes to getting rid of them.
Summer has arrived and with it, new clothes are coming in. To make some space, I've donated some of my old stuff to Oxfam and local banks. I've also organized my upstairs wardrobe with my summer clothes, so I'm ready to wear them at any time. If you're someone who loves fashion, you know that it's always changing, and there's always something new to try. It's a fun and exciting journey, even if space is tight. So, buckle up and enjoy the journey.
